Palestis Educational Consultants, LLC of New Jersey is an educational company that specializes in authorizing, monitoring, evaluating, and providing technical support for New Jersey schools.

 

Mission Statement:
To provide a strong foundation of resources, oversight, guidance and leadership both to and in partnership with educational leaders of community schools serving children and society.

Ernest Palestis Ed.D

Dr. Palestis has 45 years of experience as an educator in New Jersey. He has served as a teacher, supervisor, principal, child study team director, business administrator, and superintendent of schools / interim superintendent of schools.

During his 27 year career as a superintendent of schools, Dr. Palestis helped to pass three referendums in three different districts. He led small and large districts, including: Mine Hill and Morris Hills Regional. As an interim superintendent he served in Morris Plains, Wharton, Ramapo – Indian Hills Regional, Ogdensburg, Livingston and Fair Lawn.

 

He has presented workshops throughout New Jersey. In addition he worked with parents, staff, and board members to create schools that have been recognized on the national and state level.

Dr. Palestis is an accomplished author who has been published in national and state journals.

Dr. Palestis has provided professional development programs in all of his public school districts. In addition, he has provided professional development for Jersey City; West New York; Barrington; West Milford. Additional workshops have been provided for Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University; New Jersey School Boards Association; County College of Morris; New Jersey School Public Relations Association; Morris Area Curriculum Network; New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association; New Jersey PTA.

Dr. Palestis is an experienced graduate school instructor and has taught the following courses: School Finance; Foundations of Reading Literacy; Strategies for Literacy Instruction; Teacher as Professional; Effective Teaching Using Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligences; Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment; Habits of Mind; Instructional Models and Strategies; Collaborative Action Research; Literacy and Learning in the Information Age; Classroom Management to Promote Student Learning; Designing Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Students With Special Needs; Portfolio Assessment; Curriculum Design for Learning; Teacher Leadership in the Classroom; Assessment for Student Learning; Enhancing Learning Through Linguistic and Cultural Diversity

Monica has over twenty years of experience representing boards of education.  She concentrates her practice in the area of special education, student discipline, harassment, intimidation and bullying, and affirmative action. 

Ms. Palestis began her career as a board of education attorney, representing boards in all areas of education law, including labor and negotiations, sending-receiving relationships, student discipline, tenure charges, wrongful discharge, and special education.

She also served as Associate Counsel for New Jersey School Boards Association where she authored numerous articles on all aspects of education law and school board membership. Subsequently, she was in private practice representing parents in special education and discipline matters.

Having represented both parents and boards of education in special education litigation, Ms. Palestis offers a unique and practical perspective to all issues regarding public education.

Ms. Palestis was also honored with a Senate Resolution by the State of New Jersey for her "superlative efforts to further inclusive education and to create a positive school environment for all students."

She also had the distinction of serving as a Federal Mediator in a class action suit filed by the Education Law Center against the State of New Jersey and the State Operated School District in Federal District Court. In addition, Ms. Palestis has authored numerous articles on various aspects of special education and school law and her articles have appeared in national publications. She is a regular presenter at Lehigh University and national seminars in the area of special education. She has also provided individualized education workshops for districts such as Red Bank Regional, Union, Fort Lee, Roselle Park and Mendham.

Ms. Palestis served 15 years as a board of education member on 3 different boards of education and with the Morris County Educational Services Commission. During her tenure as a board member, she passed two building referendums and her District received the distinguished honor of being selected as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. She served as President of the Board of Education for 7 years.

 

She currently serves as President of the Dover Board of Education.
